„Azzurro!“

How did we enjoy the summer holidays in the 1960s?

Paolo Conte sang “Cerco l‘estate tutto l‘anno, e all‘improvviso eccola qua” in 1968 Paolo Conte and stormed the charts with the song “Azzurro”, which translates to “sky blue” in English. “All year I search for summer, and suddenly it’s there.” With his summer song, the Italian captured the spirit of an entire generation. The lyrics are about daydreams and wanderlust on a summer day, about the longing for a distant love affair. For many Germans this wanderlust was called “Italy” at the time. Leaving the kidney table behind you and heading south with your camper van or tent. Items to pack were the first, still very modest bikinis, sleeveless shirts for dad, orange floats for the little one and folding parasols for the beach. The whole family dreamt of sun, ice cream and Dolce Vita. And because the economic miracle put money in their wallets, queues of VW camper vans, VW Beetles, Vauxhall Astras and BMW Isettas moved to the beaches of Rimini, Riccione and Marina Grande in July and August. Everyday life left behind, in front of them the red sun of Capri, sinking into the sea.

Ola and Moin instead of Ciao

The destinations change, the longing remains: Out of the towns and cities, and off to the seaside. We Germans made 71 million trips last year (in comparison to just over 13 million in the 1960s). What was once Italy is now Spain and its islands and our own beaches on the North and Baltic Sea coasts. Rügen and Mallorca, Sylt and Ibiza, Usedom and Costa del Sol, feeling the sand between the toes, tasting the salt of the sea water and feeling the sun on the skin. “Isn’t it nice to lie on the beach,” we think to ourselves almost all year around.

The little travel companion

However, the sun doesn’t always shine on holiday. Especially on the North and Baltic Sea coasts it can rain sometimes. How practical if you then have a mini umbrella to hand that fits into any luggage, like the “FiligRain Only95” from FARE®. With it, tourists can use the time to stroll through Stralsund or take a sightseeing tour through Palma de Mallorca. And when the sun comes out again, the mini umbrella offers good protection from the sun’s rays.

Wallowing in holiday memories

As great as the holiday was, the dream is quickly over back at home. So here’s a little trick on how to keep the holiday feeling in everyday life with the mini umbrella. If it rains on your way to work, simply open your umbrella and leave the house relaxed with thoughts of sky-blue holidays – as if you were on your way to the seaside.
